The national men’s chess team of Moldova scored a new victory at the World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, IPN reports.
After defeating 3-1 the third team of Georgia, Moldova also won against the first team of Georgia, 2.5 – 1.5, in the eighth round. Viorel Iordăchescu and Dmitrii Svetushkin won, while Vladimir Hamitsevich tied.
After eight rounds, the men’s chess team of Moldova ranks 13th out of 185 teams, having the same number of points as the tenth ranked squad. The Netherlands is Moldova’s next opponent.
The national women’s chess team lost to the squad of Serbia and slipped to the 54th place. In the ninth round, Moldova plays against Finland.
