The national football team of Moldova suffered a defeat also in the second match of the qualifying competition of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Moldova lost at home to Israel 1-4, IPN reports.
Aster the shameful defeat suffered in Denmark, Moldova seemed to be a different team in the first half of the match against Israel. Much more determined, Roberto Bordin’s pupils scored in the 25th minute, but Swedish referee Bojan Pandzic too easily ordered a foul to Carp. The halfback of Tambov took revenge four minutes later, when he managed to open the score. Zahavi tied to 1-1 before the end of the first half.
At the start of the second half, Nicolaescu was sent off for pushing. In ten players, Moldova resisted for only seven minutes as the goal of Solomon came, followed by the goals of Dabour and Natcho.
“When there were 11 against 11, the game was equal. Even after the sending-off, we had several occasions for scoring. What is important is that we played much better than in the match against Denmark,” said Moldova manager Roberto Bordin.
The encounter with Israel was the 100th match for captain Alexandru Epureanu, which is a record for the Moldovan football.
On September 1, Moldova plays another game of the qualifying competition of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at home, against Austria, which was defeated by Denmark 0-4. Nicolaescu, Carp, Rață and Armaș will not play as they will be suspended.
