Moldova bans meat from Caucasian area

Moldova has temporarily banned the import of live animals and meat from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia's Stavropol oblast, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Agriculture Ministry, the interdictions were imposed to keep under control the epizootic situation in the country, after notifying cases of African swine fever in some Caucasian countries. “The sanitary-veterinary service will watch the pig farms both in private households and in companies. A joint action plan has been drafted with the Customs Service, providing for intensifying the supervision of the state border and the animal growing farms in the country,” reads the web site of the Ministry. The ban will be lifted after liquidating the hotbeds notified by the Epizootic International Office.
