Moldova awarded by EU for project to conserve cultural heritage

Moldova won the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Award that is Europe’s most prestigious prize in the heritage field. Moldova was awarded in the education, training and awareness-raising category for the project “Let’s save evidence of the past for building the future, Chisinau”. Its goal is to heighten the people’s awareness and make them adopt a civic attitude towards the historical-cultural heritage and to develop a profile of the potential national and foreign visitor of the Moldovan monuments, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration of Moldova, the jury approved of the Moldovan project and its implementation level. Jury member Tomislav Šola said the project had a significant impact on the conservation, restoration and, especially, the protection of Moldova’s cultural-historical heritage.

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics said on this occasion that the cultural heritage is one of the most valuable elements of Europe that brings multiple cultural, economic and social benefits.

The ceremony to award the Europa Nostra Awards will take place in Oslo on June 11. All the 28 awardees will receive a plaque or a trophy, while seven winners of the Top Prize will get €10,000 each.
