Moldova asks for extension of Polish loan repayment period

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Liliana Palihovici asked the Polish authorities to examine the possibility of extending the period of repaying the loan of €100 million designed to help develop Moldova’s agro-industrial sector. On August 30-31, the official took part in the Summit of Heads of Parliament of Central and Southeast European Countries that was held in Warsaw, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press service, the Deputy Speaker thanked the Polish authorities for their support for Moldova’s European course, including for the financial assistance provided to Moldova within the Development Assistance Program, which represented real support for continuing the reforms aimed at modernizing the country.

In this connection, Liliana Palihovici asked the Polish authorities to consider extending the loan repayment period so as to ensure the efficient utilization of the available funds. She noted that Moldova continues to count on Poland’s support at bilateral level and within the Eastern Partnership.

Among the main subjects discussed in the summit were the future of the European Union, the support that the EU can offer to the neighboring countries, and aspects of migration and regional security.

On the sidelines of the event, Liliana Palihovici had a meeting with the Deputy Marshal of the Polish Sejm Ryszard Terlecki. The officials conferred on the development of the cooperation relations between the two legislatures. Liliana Palihovici underlined the importance of strengthening the bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation, especially through the Poland-Moldova Parliamentary Assembly platform.
