Moldova and World Bank sign two financing agreements
Prime Minister Vlad Filat had a meeting with the World Bank Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Qimiao Fan during which the two officials signed two financing agreements for the Agriculture Competitiveness Project, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Under the agreements, the International Development Agency will provide a loan of US$18 million, while the Global Environment Fund will offer a grant of US4.4 million for implementing the Agriculture Competitiveness Project.
According to the Premier, the project aims to enhance the competitiveness of the agro-food sector by supporting the modernization of the food safety management system, facilitating market access for farmers, and mainstreaming agro-environmental and sustainable land management practices. “The two agreements form part of a larger agriculture development project to the value of US$28.4 million. Besides investments from the World Bank, this project will benefit from US$4 million in support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The Government of Moldova will contribute US$2,” said Vlad Filat.
Qimiao Fan stressed that the World Bank will continue to assist Moldova in implementing international standards in different areas, contributing thus to the achievement of the European integration objective.
