Moldova and Romania will negotiate installing a new crossing point at the border Lipcani-Radauti Prut. The Government decided at this week’s meeting to initiate talks on the Agreement concerning crossing points of the Moldovan-Romanian border
The Agreement requires the both parties to improve their relations in cargo and passenger transport through the Moldovan-Romanian border, including by opening new crossing points.
At this moment, three crossing points for international railroads are open at the border: Ungheni-Iasi, Cantemir-Falciu, Giugiulesti-Galati. Also, five crossing point for roads transporting passengers and merchandise are open at Leuseni-Albita, Sculeni-Sculeni, Cahul-Oancea, Giurgiulesti-Galati, Costesi-Stanca.
Chief of the Customs Service Department Rosian Vasiloi stated that until now the legal relations between Moldova and Romania didn’t include such an agreement. He mentioned that the new crossing point Lipcani-Radauti was established by the Moldovan authorities, with funds from the state budget and from the EU, through the TACIS project, and could start operating after the agreement is signed and the Romanian authorities finish the construction works.
