The Moldovan Ministry of Health and the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a memorandum regarding the second installment of €150,000 allotted for the renovation of the Regional Blood Transfusion Center in Cahul, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Health Andrei Usatai said on Tuesday, November 13, at the signing of the document, that the talks regarding the need for a blood transfusion center in the south of the country began in 2009 and in 2010 Romania was the first to provide a help of €140,000 to begin the works.
Later, the Council of Europe’s Development Bank allotted €250,000 for purchasing the necessary equipment for collecting, processing and validating blood samples. The National Company of Health Insurances also contributed considerably. The Regional Blood Transfusion Center in Cahul will open in the first quarter of 2013, announced the Minister.
Romanian Ambassador in Moldova Marius Lazurca said that the signed document was of great importance and that cooperation between the two countries in the field of healthcare was a notable tradition.
“Romania always offered its help, including through scholarships for Moldovan pupils and students who want to study medicine in Romanian universities. The contribution of Moldovan doctors who work in Romania and help improving the health of the Romanian people is acknowledged and appreciated. We did a lot of good things together and we are about to reconfirm our commitment by signing this memorandum. We want to do more in the field of healthcare on sides banks of the Prut and we want our people to be healthier”, said Marius Lazurca.
The total cost of the rehabilitation of the Regional Blood Transfusion Center in Cahul is €800,000. Cahul District Council and the NGOs of the Global Healing network from the US also contributed to this project.
