Moldova and Romania could sign agreement on small border traffic very soon

The Romanian Foreign Ministry expresses its confidence that the Moldovan authorities will soon consider Romania’s proposal to sign an agreement on small-scale border traffic, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the ministry’s press service. According to officials of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, the authorities in Chisinau will examine the proposal and will give an answer in the shortest period of time. The ministry says that the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau passed the draft agreement over to the Moldovan authorities in the evening of March 25. The original document got to Chisinau on March 26 in the morning. Earlier, the Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu said that an agreement on small border traffic could be signed by Romania and Moldova in the near future. If the accord is signed, the citizens of the two states that live in a delimited zone near the joint border will be allowed to move without visas or passports. Under the agreement, the citizens will move via the given zone using special permits designed for small border traffic activities. Romania proposed that the border zone should cover up to 50 kilometers inland of the joint border both in Moldova and Romania. This is the maximum distance allowed by the European regulations.
