Norway is ready to further support the implementation of reforms in the justice sector of Moldova, said Norway’s Ambassador to Moldova based in Bucharest Towe Bruvik Westberg, who had a meeting with Deputy Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Ministry of Justice.
“We have very good cooperation relations with Moldova. We approve of your openness and would like to intensify cooperation in the justice sector. We are ready to help you implement reforms and encourage you to continue them because you are very close to achieving the results you want,” said the diplomat.
Vladimir Grosu said the ambassador’s visit to Chisinau represents a gesture of solidarity and support in carrying out the plan for implementing the justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016. Though Moldova has implemented only half of this comprehensive document, the results are already visible.
The deputy minister appreciated the Norwegian experts’ contribution to implementing a number of projects in strengthening the supremacy of the law and promoting human rights, including the reformation of the Central Probation Office, electronic monitoring of detainees, starting with next January, setting up of rooms for questioning minors, formulation of public policy proposals for the management of human resurges in the penitentiary system.
The cooperation with Norway is based on a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Moldova and the Government of Norway concerning the strengthening of the rule of law in Moldova, which was signed in Chisinau in 2007.
