Moldova and Georgia are willing to improve the cooperation within the GUAM, the foreign ministers of the two states Andrei Stratan and, respectively, Gela Bezhuashvili, stated Monday November 13. At a joint press conference held by the two officials, on the occasion of the Tbilisi head of diplomacy’s visit to Chisinau, Gela Bezhuashvili said that the GUAM will cooperate within the frameworks the United Nations, so that the problem of the frozen conflicts is examined at the US General Assembly. A resolution that will be proposed for examination is to be drawn up in this respect. GUAM members will also cooperate in concert within the framework of the OSCE, Council of Europe and other structures, the cited source added. Bezhuashvili pleaded in favor of a more active role of the EU in settling frozen conflicts. He added that the experience of Moldova in monitoring the borders after the introduction of the EU Border Assistance Mission is useful for Georgia as well. It is an important mission that will allow the regions to reintegrate into a unitary state. Andrei Stratan said that during the discussions the two counterparts discussed the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations, both political and economic. The issues related to the cooperation within the GUAM, commercial-economic relations and the necessity of settling the problems of the two states’ reintegration have been brought up for discussions as well. “A lot was fulfilled in the last years, but better achievements are yet to come”, head of the Moldovan diplomacy said. According to Stratan, only the concerted efforts at international level will favor the settlement of these crises. Gela Bezhuashvili visited over the last week a series of European capital cities, in light of the tense relations with Russia. In an earlier interview to Eho Moskvi radio station, head of the diplomacy from Tbilisi stated that Georgia could make use of its veto right to access the Russian Federation to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Russia has tried to become the member of the WTO since 1994. The respective agreement was not signed until now by Georgia, USA, Costa Rica and Moldova.
