Moldova accepted into International Union of Bailiffs

Moldova became a permanent member of the International Union of Bailiffs, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Justice. The decision was taken at the November 25 meeting of the Union's Standing Board, which was attended by suspended Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase. Alexandru Tanase stressed the importance of ensuring an efficient process of implementing court decisions. “Effective justice does not mean only swift judicial procedures. The right to swift and effective court decision implementation procedures represents an indisputable aspect of the person's right to a fair trial that is guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” said the suspended minister. He also said that Moldova during the last 20 years had to deal with the inheritance left by the Communist regime in justice as the court decision implementation system contained serious shortcomings. A year ago, the new democratic Government of Moldova launched sweeping reforms in the legal system. “The liberalization of the job of bailiff and introduction of the private court decision implementation system represent the most important accomplishments in the field,” said Alexandru Tanase. Moldova was accepted into the International Union of Bailiffs unanimously, becoming this the 72nd member state.
