Moldova 1 dedicated over 50 hours to election campaign
The public television channel Moldova 1 broadcast over 40 hours of debates during the electoral campaign and about 10 hours of electoral education programs, according to Angela Sirbu, Moldova 1director, Info-Prim Neo reports.
She said that electoral competitors participated in 2 rounds of debates and, at the end of the campaign, there was a debate between representatives of parties’ youth organizations, which showed the people the opinions and plans of future politicians. Electoral shows’ rating was better than the average of other Moldova 1 shows.
Mihai Scoarta, campaign manager at Moldova 1, said that only 26 out of 39 candidates used the free time offered by the public television. AMN used these opportunities the most, followed by PCRM, PL and PLDM. At the bottom of the list sit independent candidates Oleg Cazac and Tatiana Timbalist. 16 participants paid for publicity. PLDM tops this list, followed by PDM, AMN and PCRM, while the Ecologist Party and Tatiana Timbalist spent the least for advertising. The record audience was registered on November 26, when nearly 300.000 watched the debate on Moldova 1.
Neither did all the candidates participate in debates or shows at Radio Moldova. Alexandru Dorogan, head of the radio, said that about 50 experts participated in debate and educational programs. Candidates answered to nearly 500 questions and opinions from citizens. For the first time, there was a webcam in the studio, so that those listening to Radio Moldova online could see the shows as well.
Teleradio-Moldova manager Constantin Marin said the main target was the citizen, who needed to be informed enough to make the right choice on the ballot day.
Eugeniu Ribca, Chair of TRM Supervisory Board, said the company showed professionalism during the electoral campaign. He stressed that this path must be continued so that no matter the government or institution’s board, it should always serve the public interest.
