“Moldexpo” hosts second National Carpets Fair

Thirty weavers will display carpets at the National Carpets Fair that will take place at the exhibitions center “Moldexpo” on December 12. The event is aimed at promoting weaving of carpets and other things from wool, contributing also to the promotion of Bessarabian carpets in the country and abroad, IPN reports

The second fair of the kind is organized by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation under the theme “Carpet of Longing”.

The event also aims to supplement the actions to promote the case “Traditional techniques of weaving carpets” for being included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“This exceptional activity of wool carpet weaving, which saw a significant decline, now enjoys increased interest on the part of those who appreciate the weaving art and on the part of consumers, who consider our traditional carpets as objects that decorate the house and warm the soul,” acting Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said in a news conference.

About 150 unique carpets from personal collections will be presented at the fair.

The people who will attend the event will be able to take part in different creation workshops, to taste traditional food and to help weave a large puzzle-carpet.

As part of the National Carpets Fair, there will be held the third Winter National Costume Gala. The audience will learn how to make clothing from different types of cloth by emphasizing the particularities and beauty of the winter national costume.
