MoI criminalistics team receives equipment from US Embassy

The US Embassy has donated on Wednesday, August 15, crime scene investigation equipment and perishable tools to Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) criminalistics team. The 18 kits have picture cameras and top notch tech, evidence collection kits, equipment for the collection of digital fingerprints, as well as equipment for the reconstruction of bullet trajectory, reports Info-Prim Neo. William Moser stated that today’s event is an example of engagement to our bilateral relations. The criminalistics equipment is to be distributed among the district commissariats, in order to improve their crime investigation capacities. The equipment given will allow criminalists to use scientific methods in crime investigation. They had participated in an introductory course, which taught them how to use the equipment. Minister of Interior Dorin Recean stated that the event has two components that are very important for the investigation process. One is directly related to the equipment, namely its practical attribute, and the second relies on the intellectual part, related to the instruction received. “Moldova is doing its best at engaging in crime fighting on a regional and national level, in order to fight crimes that have not only local impacts, but also international ones”, the Minister noted. The donated sets’ value rises to $40,000; overall, over the course of previous years, the US Embassy donated equipment to the MoI worth over $800,000.
