MoI convenes meeting following bus accident that killed 10 people

The Ministry of the Interior has convened all the agencies responsible for road safety for a meeting tomorrow after earlier today 10 people died in a bus accident in Ungheni district, Info-Prim Neo reports. Interior Minister Dorin Recean told a news conference today that while traffic accidents are commonly associated with MoI failures, there is actually a host of agencies that are responsible for schooling drivers, licensing carriers, inspecting vehicles and many other things on which safety on the roads depend. “Today's accident demonstrates that there is a lot of work to do and the MoI insists on convening all the agencies involved in ensuring traffic safety”. Dorin Recean remarked that today's accident was one of the deadliest in recent years. Investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the case, but preliminary findings showed no braking traces, which indicates that either the driver had a bad reaction or the brakes didn't respond. “This is not the first accident of this kind, yet perhaps the most serious one, with the highest death toll in recent times. This prompts us to make a profound analysis of what is going on on our national and urban roads”, said the Minister. He specified that 10 people were killed in the accident, and not 11 as earlier reported. 45 passengers were on the bus and part of them were hospitalized. The Minister stated that everything was done to offer assistance to the survivors. Ten people died and at least 25 were injured after a bus fell into a ravine in Ungheni district today at around 8:00am.
