A simulator intended for training in the field of endourological surgery of the urinary tract was presented at the National Clinical Hospital in Chisinau, which houses the University Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology. Emil Ceban, rector of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that this state-of-the-art device is located near the operating rooms, giving resident doctors the opportunity to simulate surgeries before performing them on patients, which is particularly valuable help. According to the rector, the simulator will be useful for doctors who will apply modern minimally invasive methods, IPN reports.
Emil Ceban noted that this device will be used by students who learn urology, by resident doctors, doctoral students, as well as by those who will implement endourological methods in the country's clinics. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy is modernized and the study programs are adapted to the standards of the European Union, and the support offered by the Government of Romania and, in particular, by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova, is valuable.
Adrian Dupu, Secretary of State of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova, said that in recent years, Romania has provided support to the Republic of Moldova through important projects. This simulator, presented today, is just an example of what Romania has achieved and is ready to continue doing for Moldova, whether it goes to education, infrastructure or the healthcare sector.
"We have very good cooperation relations with most of the urology clinics in Romania, through honorary doctors, associate guest professors of our university. Also, many residents and doctors from our country became acquainted with the activities in Romania and implemented them. But, in order to introduce a new method, we had to travel abroad. Now, for the first time in our clinic, we benefit from a simulator that will contribute to education on the spot, here, without having to travel," said Adrian Tanase, head of the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology.
Associate professor Pavel Banov noted that education through simulation has a major impact. Both students and residents who train with the help of simulators start to provide high-quality medical services faster.
Alexandru Mîțu, resident urologist at “Timofei Mosneaga" National Clinical Hospital, said that endourology is a minimally invasive branch of urology, which develops quickly and requires vast skills, noting that this device will allow young specialists to avoid mistakes in the operating room. "This simulator represents for us not only a technical investment, but, first of all, an investment in our future, an investment in the quality of medical services offered to patients in the Republic of Moldova," said the resident doctor.
The simulator was purchased within the Project "Improving Medical Education in Urology and Surgical Nephrology through Simulation", funded by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova of the Government of Romania.
