Maternity Hospital No. 2 of Chisinau was outfitted with modern medical equipment purchased with Japanese funds within the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program “Kusanone”, IPN reports.
The project was launched in 2015, while the value of the grant exceeded US$ 85,000. In the project completion ceremony, Maternity Hospital No. 2 director Tatiana Gutium said the money provided by the Government of Japan was used to purchase a last-generation ultrasound scanner that enables to determine the intrauterine state of the fetus and to detect diseases that can appear during pregnancy and congenital malformations. There were also purchased an anesthetic machine with ventilator for maintaining artificial respiration when patients are in a critical state, an ergonomic delivery bed, three beds for newborns and an electric bipolar coagulator machine to reduce bleeding during Cesarean sections. The equipment will facilitate the patients’ access to high-quality diagnosis services.
Attending the event, Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii said the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Japanese-Moldovan relations is celebrated in 2017. In the period, these relations of friendship became more powerful and Japan is further committed to support the economic and social stability in Moldova through its contributions. “I lived in a number of countries and understood that people’s interests are common everywhere: health and education. That’s why I’m convinced that it is essential for the people to be provided with public services of a high quality, especially in such key areas. To support these sectors, we continue to administer the Program “Kusanone”, which centers on human security projects. The major goal is to directly assist the local authorities and public institutions in their efforts so as to increase the quality of the people’s life,” stated the diplomat.
Mihai Moldovanu, head of the Health Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council, thanked for the support offered by the Government of Japan to a number of municipal medical institutions. Maternity Hospital No. 2 is the oldest of those working in Chisinau. The contribution of Japan is very important as the patients need modern equipment most of all.
The Program “Kusanone” was launched in Moldova in 2008. A number of 38 projects were financed within it in 2008-2016. The grant assistance came to over US$ 3.3 million.
