Mobile signatures become available in Moldova

The Moldovan Government, in partnership with the E-Governance Center, has launched the “Mobile Signature” service which allows citizens to sign documents remotely using their cell phones, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a Government’s press release, the first mobile signature has been made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat. The premier stated that by introducing this service, the Government has made a step forward towards becoming more efficient and accessible to its citizens. “The mobile signature will make our lives more comfortable. Now the citizens of Moldova will no longer have to conform to the schedule of public workers. We’ll be able to sign documents, reports, requests and statements remotely, from any corner of the world, by simply using our cell phone. By making this service available we eliminate corruption and win time. The mobile signature will be useful to businesses as well”, said Filat. E-Governance Center director Stela Mocan said that the mobile signature service has the same legal effect as the material one. Thanks to this service, the mobile phone could soon replace the ID card. The mobile companies Moldcell and Orange, partners in implementing this service, will offer it free-of-charge until the end of 2012. The price of the service will be reasonable for all. Moldova has become one of the first seven countries in the world to make this service available.
