The number of users of cell phone services last year increased by 14.7% on 2011, while the mobile phone penetration rate rose by over 15% to almost 120%. According to a communiqué from the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology, the ratio of people to SIM cards in Moldova is 100:120. Thus, a part of the clients have by two or more SIM cards for using mobile phone services, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the information presented by the three mobile phone carriers (SA Orange Moldova, SA Moldcell, and SA Moldtelecom) to the Agency, the total number of users of such services grew by 547,000 compared with 2011, to over 4.26 million. More than 242,000 new users were connected to the network of SA Moldcell in 2012. This carrier’s clients on January 1 totaled 1.602 million. The number of clients of the largest mobile phone carrier – SA Orange Moldova – rose by 214,000 to 2.343 million. SA Moldtelecom has about 316,000 users, up over 90,000 users. The sales of the three carriers in 2012 exceeded 3.732 billion lei.
