Mobile ballot boxes held up by Transnistrian authorities

Two mobile ballot boxes related to two different polling stations in Varnita village were held up by Transnistrian militsia as they were being taken to Bender, Info-Prim Neo learns from the Promo-LEX Association. The mobile boxes were not accompanied by Moldovan police cars, as the observers used their own cars. Promo-LEX observers maintain that representatives of the Tiraspol administration are waiting for instructions from their superiors. But, the separatist forces say, most probably, the boxes will be returned to Varnita. “Voters from the Transnistrian area try to find the polling station they are supposed to vote in. The minibuses connecting those two banks of the Nistru do not take fares, what is suspicious. By 11.15, an unidentified man announced he will take passengers to Chisinau, on condition they would vote for a certain electoral contestant,” the communique reads. Promo-LEX monitors the elections in seven constituencies, in a project carried out within the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Coalition 2009. About 270 observers are deployed in territories.
