The recently launched mobile app “e-Trafic” and the SMS service 9023 have proved efficient, the police say, notifying motorists timely about their traffic violations.
The innovations represent an alternative to the traditional traffic violation notes sent by post mail and can help the motorists qualify for a 50% discount on the fine, which is available if the fine is paid within 72 hours.
Since the e-Trafic app and the 9023 SMS service have been launched two months ago, the traffic enforcement cameras detected 63,500 violations for a total fine value of 12 million lei. Most motorists, however, were notified in time to pay within 72 hours and qualify for the 50% discount, Col. Dan Chirita of the Interior Ministry told a news conference today.
To get timely notifications, anyone with a mobile phone can subscribe to the 9023 service to receive short messages and if the device is a smartphone operating on Android or iOS the driver can install the e-Trafic app, which also enables the offender to pay the fine online using the Mpay platform.
