Miron Gagauz resigns as head of Moldova’s Railways

Miron Gagauz was dismissed from the post of director of the state-owned company Moldova’s Railways on the basis of his application submitted to the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure on Wednesday morning, Info-Prim Neo reports. The news comes amid speculation about the violations committed at this company following the appearance of disclosure articles in the Moldovan mass media. The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and the Ministry of the Interior examined the information broadcast by the press and informed the Prosecutor General’s Office about the identified violations. A number of legal cases against employees the state-run company were then started. More information will be provided after the cases are sent to court. Miron Gagauz had worked at Moldova’s Railways since 1997. Initially, he acted as first deputy director general of the company, but in January 2000 was named director general. In 2005, he was appointed as Minister of Transport and Road Management and worked simultaneously as director general of Moldova’s Railways. In January 2007, Miron Gagauz was dismissed from the post of Minister of Transport at his request, with Vasile Ursu replacing him.
