The future of the Republic of Moldova is undoubtedly in the European Union. The prospect, date and day of the entry into the EU depends on the pace and quality of implementing the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, Moldova’s first President Mircea Snegur stated in an interview for Moldpres Agency, quoted by IPN.

According to him, when the independence was declared, the unionist path wasn’t even discussed because the political class and the administration were aware that the people were not ready for the union, as they are not now. “However, we followed another method of bringing the peoples closer, by restoring the common spiritual space and economic integration by creating joint companies, by the visa-free movement in both directions and others,” stated Mircea Snegur.

He noted that the most correct way of building the independent state was chosen then and time showed that this was the right one indeed.
