A businessman from Chisinau and the director of a boarding school were arrested on suspicion of trafficking in children. The police established that a minor aged 15, who is under state tutelage, was sexually abused by the businessman, while the director of the school allowed the minor to leave the institution and to live together with the abuser in the same apartment, IPN reports.
Prosecutor Valeriu Bodean told a news conference that the principal of the school facilitated the man’s acquaintance with the child. The businessman started to offer presents to the minor and then obtained the principal’s consent to allowing the minor to live in the same apartment with him from this summer. In the period, the grownup sexually abused the minor.
The director is also suspected of instructing to ill-treat and torture children of the school who had a poor standing or behaved badly. It happened during 2009-2011.
The prosecutor said the investigation is underway. Searches were carried out at the home of the suspected abuser and at the boarding school. The businessman and the principal were placed under arrest for 30 days. The abuser is 40, while the principal is 45 and has worked in the education sector for over 20 years.
If the two are found guilty, they will serve 15 to 20 years or life in jail.
Currently, the minor is at a placement center under the supervision of psychologists.
