A civilian could be appointed minister of internal affairs. This was one of the issues discussed during Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s meeting with civil society representatives. Sergiu Ostaf, head of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO), told Info-Prim Neo the prime minister took a firm stance regarding security reforms. “The prime minister said he personally engaged to bring reforms and changes in the security sector. He hopes it will be possible to appoint a civilian with innovative views as minister of the interior”, Ostaf said. The CReDO director stressed the importance of the vision behind such a reform. According to him, the ministry must be headed by a person who can think free and generate solutions, by a good manager with profound knowledge in this domain. “It’s not clear whether this comes true or if there will be any results at all. But we all heard PM’s words and the representatives of civil society liked them”, said Sergiu Ostaf. The head of the government also mentioned that the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption proved to serve different goals than those for which it had been created. The Center will lose its function to verify and control economic agents. Ostaf added that participants discussed about the need to improve the efficiency of healthcare services, finances and administrative management, to attract foreign funds and technological assistance. The prime minister explained that many of civil society’s suggestions had not been included in Alliance’s previous government program because parties could not reach a consensus. Vlad Filat complained about government’s limited capacity to analyze problems and find appropriate solutions. He asked the civil society to help by providing both analyses and efficient solutions. The written suggestions will be processed until January 10. The participants discussed for two hours.
