Ministry of Helath launches system to monitor Covid patients

The Ministry of Health has launched a new system to remotely monitor Covid patients, their close contacts, as well as people who need to self-isolate after entering Moldova.

“The purpose of implementing this mechanism is to monitor and triage Covid-positive patients. We want this Covid monitor to become a very important link – which we need to admit is currently weak – between patients, primary care, emergency medical care, hospital care, local public authorities, and which could help decongest the health system and lead to a rational and efficient use of medical resources - beds, equipment, medical staff”, stated Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco during a press conference hosted by the 112 Service.

The project is the result of
a partnership among the Ministry of Health, the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu" (USMF) - which participated by providing human resources, and the National Service for Emergency Calls 112 - which ensured the logistical part. The USMF agreed to involved students from the Faculty of Preventive Medicine in the project, while the 112 Service offered space, computers and telephones.

Through this project, information will be obtained in real time about the dynamics of the situation of those monitored
and forecasts will be made, which will help to avoid a collapse of the health care system. “Our Covid monitors also promote the vaccination campaign”, said Ala Nemerenco. The project launched today is part of a broader reform promoted by the Ministry of Health with the goal of creating “a strong health care system for people”, said Nemerenco.

The project was implemented in two weeks, said Liviu Oboroc, director of the 112
Service. The mechanism is different from the work done so far within the 112 Service. In this project, the Covid monitors are the ones making the calls, not receiving them. The monitoring of patients and persons targeted in the project is done according to an algorithm established by the Ministry of Health, at different periods: 48 hours, 72 hours, 7 days, 10 days. “Around 10,000 calls are made daily to the persons concerned. The calls are repeated at the intervals established by the Ministry of Health”, said Liviu Oboroc.
