The Ministry of Health warns about serious epidemiological situation of the acute diarrheic diseases (ADD) in 2006 and during seven months of this year. In 2006, general morbidity caused by ADD reached a rate of 464.5 cases per 1000 of population, by 4.2% more than in the year 2005. In 2006 ADD killed 10 persons, including 8 infants. In the first seven months of this year the situation aggravated even more; a morbidity caused by acute diarrheic diseases was recorded to have grown by 25.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. The high level of morbidity was influenced by a 43% growth in the number of salmonella cases spread by food products and by an 11% higher number of acute intestinal infections, caused by pathogen agents. Doctors are worried about the continuous growing of the number of epidemic bursts: 9 in 2003 and 30 in 2006. In rural areas the level of morbidity caused by ADD is twice lower than in the urban area; doctors explain this fact by a lower number of appeals to the medical services. Lately, the most affected target age group is said to be the children younger than 2 years old, among whom the frequency of cases constitutes 71.4 cases per 1000 children. The second target group includes children aged 3-6 years, with a frequency of 14.5 cases. Up to 75% of the children infected with ADD from this group are institutionalized children, a fact which indicates a serious call for respecting the sanitary-epidemiological norms in kindergartens. Doctors say that the spread of acute diarrheic diseases is caused by a contamination of the basic factors of the environment: water, soil and food products, as a result of ignoring the sanitary-epidemiological norms, as well as by the incompetence of the educational staff, and by the lack of necessary hygiene practices and conditions.
