The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova presented ten steps towards accession to EU. Moldova submitted an application for EU membership to the Council of the EU on March 3, 2022 and on April 11 it was handed over the accession Questionnaire. The completed Questionnaire is to be submitted to the European Commission during a month, IPN reports.
Based on the responses, the European Commission will formulate an Opinion that will be transmitted to the Council of the EU for taking a decision. A unanimous vote of all the 27 EU Member States is needed for granting the status of candidate country to the Republic of Moldova. The accession negotiations are opened after the 27 countries give their consent.
During the negotiations, the Republic of Moldova will have to implement the EU legislation and standards in all the 35 areas covered by the talks. When the negotiations with all the 27 governments of the EU are over, the European Commission will formulate an Opinion on Moldova’s readiness to become an EU member.
Based on the Opinion, the Member States unanimously decide to end the negotiations. The European Parliament gives its consent. All the EU Member States and the candidate country sign and ratify the Treaty of Accession.
