The electricity will be switched off as a last resort, when the energy system will no longer have the capacity to satisfy consumption, said the secretary of state of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan. The official assured that the state has a number of tools to ensure that the citizens do not remain without electric power, IPN reports.
"To satisfy consumption, we can mobilize, increase production at the thermoelectric plans and, for the purpose, another decision was taken by the Commission for Emergency Situations. We can increase the generation capacity at the plants by 50-60 MW. This is substantial," Constantin Borosan said in an interview for Teleradio-Moldova.
The official also referred to the measure to ban the export of renewable energy. "These capacities are variable. They depend on the weather conditions, but, during particular hours, 150-200 MW are produced, and this is a significant contribution. Also, imports of power bought from the stock exchange, connection of the 110 kV line, emergency aid, unintentional flows - all these are tools meant to satisfy consumption," explained Constantin Borosan.
The secretary of state urged the citizens to save electricity, stressing that this could help overcome the crisis.
"Now, a small effort is required on our part and we thank everyone who makes it, and we already see a positive result. The peak loads are no longer sharp as they were previously – in the morning and evening they were very sharp. The benefit is that we do not have to resort to emergency purchases for these peak hours, which is very expensive and there is pressure on the network, and pressure on the price," said the secretary of state.
Starting with January 1, the Moldovan Thermoelectric Plant (MGRES) in the Transnistrian region will no longer supply electricity to the right bank of the Nistru. The power purchase contract was not extended as the MGRES said it has no guarantee that gas will be supplied to the Transnistrian region. For its part, JSC Energocom said that it concluded contracts with partners from Romania and Bulgaria, as well as with all energy producers in the country. The company also intends to turn to the OPCOM energy exchange so as to meet consumption needs.
