Ministry of Agriculture: Moldova will not use EU quotas on exports of animal products next two years as well

Neither this year nor during the next two years will Moldova export products of animal origin to the EU and use the export quotas on these products granted by the EU, Minister of Agriculture Valeriu Casarciuc said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “After the mission of the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection (DG SANCO) completes work, the country that wants to export products to the EU is given three years to implement a plan of measures formulated in accordance with the mission's recommendations. “The DG SANCO mission had been in Moldova long ago, but the plan of measures has been worked out recently, this month. The previous government spoke a lot about the possibilities of exporting to the EU, but did practically nothing,” the minister said. He also said that among the measures included in the plan are the equipment of the animal products testing laboratory and the animal health laboratory that is under reconstruction. The animal products processing companies are to restructure their product safety systems in compliance with the quality management standards ISO 22000 or HACCP. The UE granted to Moldova export quotas on meat, meat products, sausages and eggs. Earlier, the eggs were exported to Romania, but after it joined the EU the export was halted. Specialists say at the first stage Moldova could export canned meat and eggs to the EU.
