While farmers have been protesting for three days already, Minister Vladimir Bolea says he is looking for solutions to help them. He discussed with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, the creation of a fund for farmers. Also, he prepared official letters to the 27 ministers of agriculture from the EU member states, Bolea told the Economic Council advising the Ministry of Agriculture.
At the meeting, the minister said that the special law on supporting farmers affected by severe drought in the summer of 2024 has been speedily adopted to stop foreclosures on affected farmers. “It is now essential that all parties involved sit down at the discussion table to find viable solutions that allow agricultural activity to continue”, the official declared.
Farmers from several districts protested outside the Presidential Palace on Thursday, asking Maia Sandu to send a bill aimed at supporting farmers back to Parliament for revision, as they consider it inadequate. The protesters also demand the resignation of Minister Bolea as a condition to accept talks within the Economic Council.
