The Ministry of Culture demands to stop the construction of a multistory car park on the site of the former building of the Theological Seminar. In a letter addressed to mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan draws attention to the fact that the building of the parking lot causes serious damage to the integrity and authenticity of this monument that forms part of the national cultural heritage, IPN reports.
According to Sergiu Prodan, the green area near this monument is being destroyed. The visual access to the southern façade of the building is hampered. A permanent center of vibrations and emissions of gases that are harmful to the integrity of the historical building and for the heritage book collections kept in the building is created. Also, the traffic pressure on the whole area is increased.
“Given the City Hall’s decision to work out the General Urbanistic Plan of the municipality and the Centru Zonal Urbanistic Plan, we draw attention to point 4 of Parliament Decision No.138 of 13.06.2013, which provides that the Chisinau City Hall will amend the General Urbanistic Plan of the municipality of Chisinau so as to bring the provisions on the Historical Nucleus in concordance with its status of monument/ protected area of national category,” runs the letter.
A new Government decision stipulating the legal activity framework for the National Council of Historical Monuments took effect last week. The Council’s role will be to protect and ensure the viability of the historical monuments in the Republic of Moldova.
