Ministerial representatives fail to appear for Court of Accounts meeting

Today's meeting of the Court of Accounts (CA) was suspended after representatives from the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Finance and the State Chancellery failed to appear. The meeting was supposed to be dedicated to the hearing of an audit report on the Government e-Transformation Project highlighting its progress and risks, Info-Prim Neo reports. Of all those invited, only one representative of the Ministry of Communications showed up, but she was unable to provide any relevant details on the Project. In CA chairman Serafim Urecheanu's opinion, this further confirms one of the audit report's key findings, and namely that the governmental authorities are insufficiently involved in implementing the Project. Cooperation with the Electronic Government Center is inadequate and this explains the failure to stick to the schedule of actions, including for 2012, he added. Serafim Urecheanu highlighted the crucial importance of information technology in enhancing the transparency of governance and in strengthening ties between the state and citizens, reducing corruption, bribery and embezzlement. The Government e-Transformation Project is financed from a $20 million loan offered by the World Bank.
