Minister of Culture Monica Babuc and Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita paid an inspection visit to the Organ Hall that is being reconstructed with financial support from the Romanian Government. The officials inspected the semi-basement where original elements of the building of 1900 were identified, IPN reports.
Monica Babuc said that owing to the support provided by the Government of Romania based on an agreement signed in 2014, a sum of €1 million could be allocated for restoring the Organ Hall. Romania’s grant will contribute to reinforcing the building, repairing the wiring and engineering networks, the semi-basement, roof, cupola and façade.
Before this money was allocated, the state provided 9 million lei for reconstruction works. Another €1.5 million is needed for completing the works. A sum of 13.4 million lei will be allotted from the state budget this year for renovating the organ, the first floor, the hall and internal sculptural compositions.
Monica Babuc thanked the Government of Romania for the assistance offered in restoring the Organ Hall and other buildings of culture such as the National Theater of Cahul.
For his part, Daniel Ionita said the Organ Hall forms part of a complex set of actions that the Government of Romania takes in Moldova. “Culture is probably the best method by which the people can be united and such a building will definitely make a contribution in this regard,” he stated.
The Organ Hall’s semi-basement was 60% reconstructed, the façade was 70% restored, while the roof above the concert hall was almost fully repaired. The works on the cupola will be completed towards the end of July, while the external laying out works are executed in parallel.
