The efforts made by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to conclude the monitoring procedure by the Council of Europe were brought to the attention of the new Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, IPN reports.
A press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration says that Nicu Popescu met with the CoE official on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. According to the press release, the two officials reviewed the results of the projects implemented under 2017-2020 Action Plan of the Council of Europe for the Republic of Moldova, the CoE's support for the confidence building measures between the two banks of the Dniester, as well as other aspects of the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and this organization.
"The officials appreciated the results of the projects carried out under 2017-2020 Action Plan of the Council of Europe for the Republic of Moldova, while welcoming the launch of the second phase of 2019-2021 Partnership for Good Governance CoE-EU for the Eastern Partnership countries", states the press release.
The quoted source specifies that minister Nicu Popescu appreciates the support that the Council of Europe gives to the Republic of Moldova in the efforts to modernize and carry out the democratic reforms, mentioning the importance of the expertise offered by the Council of Europe. At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterated the will to enhance the level of cooperation with this organization.
"Also stress has been laid on the need to further promote confidence-building measures between both banks of the Dniester supported by the Council of Europe through the programs for academia and students and the benefits of extending this cooperation in the field of human rights in the Transnistrian region", mentions the press release.
Marija Pejčinović Burić was elected as Secretary General of the Council of Europe on June 26, 2019.
