Moldova is kept on the list of states for which the European Parliament will provide democratic support in 2016, Foreign Minister Andrei Galbur said in a meeting with a delegation of MEPs, noting that this will help to further strengthen the institutional capacities of the Moldovan legislature, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the minister and the MEPs, who are on a fact-finding visit to Moldova, conferred on the European agenda of Moldova, in particular the priorities in implementing the Association Agreement with the EU. Andrei Galbur thanked the MEPs for their contribution to increasing the EU assistance for implementing the reforms envisioned in the Association Agreement.
Special attention was devoted to the role of the parliamentary body in ensuring the implementation of the accord, the officials underlining the importance of consultations within the platforms of the Moldova- EU Association Committee and of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.
The MEPs encouraged the Moldovan authorities to continue to do structural reforms, in accordance with the commitments assumed through the Association Agreement with the EU and reiterated their readiness to further support the efforts made in this regard. In this connection, they stressed the importance of promoting an open dialogue with civil society.
