Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga called upon the farmers to engage in a constructive dialogue. Solutions to the problems faced in agriculture cannot be identified "in the street", the official said in the context of the protests mounted last December by a number of farmers' associations, IPN reports.
According to the minister, the authorities are willing to discuss the problems experienced in the agricultural sector, but this must be done in an organized and cooperative way.
"We propose to create a single platform at the Ministry, made up of farmers and other specialists, from the Ministry of Finance or from the banking sector," Ludmila Catlabuga stated in the program "Emphasis on Today" on TVR Moldova channel.
"Depending on the financial possibilities, we will intervene quickly to find solutions based on farmers' proposals," added the minister.
Ludmila Catlabuga stressed that she regularly visits pays field visits and discusses with farmers the difficulties they face. During these discussions, she learned that the dissatisfaction of those who go out to protest does not always reflect the position of the whole agricultural sector.
"We also have farmers who, indeed, are in critical situations, but we must not generalize. Not all the farmers share the opinion of the protesting associations. I don't think that, through a protest, one can pressure the Government to take particular decisions," said the minister.
At the end of December 2024, representatives of a series of farmers' associations protested in the center of Chisinau, asking the authorities to take urgent measures to support the agricultural sector. Among the demands they formulated were to extend licenses for the import of gains and oilseeds until December 31, 2025, to refund the excise duties to farmers for 2024 and to work out a mechanism of loan and refinancing guarantees for the new agricultural year 2025.
