Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco thinks it’s a good thing that “the Shor case circus at the Cahul Court of Appeals is finally over”, now that the case has been transferred back to Chisinau.
As Litvinenco noted, the case has been protracted in the Cahul court for more than three years now, with sittings postponed more than 60 times and with hearings on the merits not even started yet. However, the justice minister suggests there is room for suspicion about the transfer ruling.
“Let me say just this, without going into too much detail. I hope that at least at the Chisinau Court of Appeals the mockery of justice that took place in Cahul does not repeat itself. With all the distrust in the administration of justice and the systemic corruption, a cleanup of the judiciary to be delivered by a government that has a strong mandate from our citizens is the only solution. Because this is what the people demand, that justice be served, and we will stick to it. And no one will stand in our way”, declared the minister.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled to transfer Ilan Shor’s case from the Cahul Court of Appeals to the Chisinau Court of Appeals, as requested by the fugitive politician’s lawyers. The Supreme Court also upheld the decision to have Ilan Shor declared wanted and arrested as a result of him fleeing from justice. The SCJ ruling is irreversible.
