Minister: Freeing of MP Tauber shows once again how serious things in justice are

Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco said the court’s decision to release Shor Party MP Marina Tauber from house arrest and to place her under judicial control shows once again how serious things in the justice sector are, IPN reports.

“Besides multiple questions, this decision generated fully justified dissatisfaction in society and further undermined confidence in justice. The flagrant violation of the legislation concerning the financing of political parties is an element of corruption that cannot be challenged. I expect the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office will appeal the decision in the Chisinau Appeals Court and, even if the judges are those who should take a final decision, I hope a lot that the amalgam of information and proofs of the committed illegalities will be taken into account,” stated Minister Litvinenco.

Shor Party lawmaker Marina Tauber was released from house arrest and placed under judicial control, a form of bail, as ruled by the Chisinau/Ciocana Court on Tuesday.

On July 21, Tauber was stripped of parliamentary privilege before being arrested. Subsequently she has been charged with two offenses: knowingly accepting illegal financing for the Shor Party from an organized criminal group; and falsifying the party’s financial report for the first half of 2022 with the intention of withholding actual incomes and expenses. She spent almost two months in a remand facility before being released under house arrest on September 14.
