Minimum salary will rise to 5,000 lei

The official minimum salary in the country next year will be 5,000 lei, up 25% from the current minimum pay. The rise is stipulated in a Government decision drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, IPN reports.

“A decent minimum salary is needed so as to fight pay inequity and to set a sufficient salary for satisfying the basic needs of the wage earner. The challenger related to pay inequity stimulates social dialogue at national level and contributes to reducing poverty and combating undeclared and under-declared work,” says the draft.

In 2023, the Cabinet unified the minimum salary and this is applied equally in the public sector and in the real sector of the economy. In 2022, the minimum salary was 3,500 lei, while in 2023 – 4,000 lei.
