Minibuses will travel on new routes in Chisinau from November 1

None of the municipal minibus route administrators challenged the Chisinau City Hall’s decision to modify the itineraries of minibuses. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said the decision takes effect on November 1 and called on the people to be patient as it will be difficult for a period, IPN reports.

Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference that the local taxes for carriers will be reviewed if they prove that they cannot cope following the instituted changes.

According to the mayor, the people living on secondary streets will have increased access to transport because the minibuses will run namely on such arteries. “The nine routes that were cancelled earlier weren’t restored. But, if the administrators submit proposals for putting these minibuses on other routes, we will revise the decision,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca. He added that the number of minibuses was reduced from 2,000 to 1,500 and will continue to be decreased.

The mayor noted that they intend to increase the number of buses and trolleybuses. Ten of the buses running on route No. 122 will be transferred from private management under the management of the Urban Bus Company. The people benefited from concessions can also travel by them.

During the first two weeks, if the decision of the Chisinau City Hall is not obeyed, the administrators will be only warned. Afterward, the contracts with them will be terminated.
