Chisinau minibus route administrators insist on an increase in fares to 5 lei and offer in return a number of proposals to improve their service. Having formed an initiative group, the administrators came up with 10 assurances that will be submitted to the City Hall and the Chisinau Municipal Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the head of the initiative group, Ion Francu, the urban minibus route administrators, together with drivers and maintenance men, will form a work-group that will take care of keeping public transport in order. “We commit to equip the vehicles with the necessary number of seats, according to the technical passport, a red line indicating the limit to which persons standing up can go. Intermediary stops will be arranged by route administrators”, said Francu. Also, the administrators propose creating a common center for all of the private transport employees in Chisinau which would monitor the drivers’ activity. Each stop is to have schematics and graphs that would display the minibus’s route. During rush hours, minibuses would come every minute. Another idea is to create a website that could be accessed by all passengers, where they would express their opinion on the provided services. The members of the initiative group also mentioned installing GPS surveillance equipment in the vehicles. Nicolae Serednea, member of the initiative group said that a minibus daily covers about 220km in the Chisinau area. The spending for each kilometer comes to about 5 lei. Considering the high price of the fuel, the fare increase is more than necessary. Some drivers don’t even have enough money to fill up their tanks. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Chisinau's public transport and roads chief Adrian Boldurescu stated that the City Hall’s position remains the same: the administrators have to ensure high-quality services first, before any decision on the fare increase is made. “We want a realistic fare, but they do not. We want them to respect the rules first, but they continue to convey people in heavily overcrowded vehicles”, said Boldurescu. 1,850 minibuses administered by 19 private operators run of Chisinau's routes.
