Minibus drivers go on strike today
The operators of a large part of minibus routes in Chisinau announced a strike for today, September 26, beginning at 9 AM, Info-Prim Neo.
They sent a petition to the public local authorities, informing that minibuses wouldn’t run on multiple routes.
Only three operators didn’t officially join the strike: Auto-Rapid, Ruta-Prim and Lunguscom. They administer routes no. 120, 129, 148, 157, 166, 173, 178, 184, 189, 190, 109, 113, 122, 135, 136, 186, 192 and 116.
According to a press release by the City Hall, the Municipality dispatched additional trolleybuses and buses to diminish the impact of the private carriers’ strikes. The Electrical Transport Company will dispatch 281 instead of the regular 240 trolleybuses and the Urban Bus Company 108 instead of 92 buses.
The strike is meant to back the carriers’ demands for the minibus fare to be increased from 3 to 5 lei.
The Chisinau City Hall maintains the same position as previously. The Municipality announced its willingness to revise the fare in May, on the condition that drivers fully respected basic rules on passenger transportation: to drive at no more than 50 km/h in the city, to take passengers only on seats, to stop only in stops, to have an exact timetable that would be displayed in minibuses and stops.
