The minibus drivers are obliged to go to the protest that is set to take place in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on October 7. As they are employed, the drivers cannot ignore the superiors’ demand as they can lose their job. A part of them don’t even know what the goal of the protest is, the manager of “Gările Auto Moderne” SRL Iurie Moroz stated, noting the protest organizer – chairman of the Employers Association of Road Transport Operators Oleg Alexa – pursues own goals and the chaos suits him.
In a news conference at IPN, Iurie Moroz said that manipulating the carriers, Oleg Alexa exerts pressure on the state institution and constantly threatens with protests. This way he gets own benefits. If he cannot achieve his pecuniary goals, he announces protests. “For example, the so-called protest announced for October 7 centers on the fact that, according to him, the company “Gările Auto Moderne” dispossessed the state and came into possession of national bus stations. This is a lie and manipulation,” stated the manager.
Yuri Moroz noted that “Gările Auto Moderne” has a public-private partnership with the state. The investments made by them during one year are larger than those made by the state during ten years. “Enormous effort has been made to bring things at bus stations in order. Mister Alexa is concerned as the so-called revolutionary categorically does not want the passenger transportation sector to be in order. The main goal is to maintain chaos as namely in chaos and lack of control he is used to develop his schemes,” said the manager of “Gările Auto Moderne”.
He also said that Oleg Alexa exerts pressure on the state as he wants to get subsidies for carriers. “This money will reach the pockets of patrons, not the real owners of the units of transport - the drivers. The protest set for October 7 is actually an attempt to exert pressure and blackmail the authorities so as to satisfy the whims of representatives of the transport sector,” stated Yuri Moroz.
The head of the Association of Carriers and Auxiliary Services Eugen Galupa said that Oleg Alexa in 2009-2019 had been affiliated to a person of the Democratic Party. “In the period, he opened routes and caused chaos in the transport sector, as he wanted. For this individual and for the firms he manages, there was no law or the Transport Code. Special authorizations were issued for them. Only Alexa’s firms own authorizations based on embarking. A normal authorization allows having a timetable, while Mister Alexa’s authorization says the units of transport set off when the seats on the vehicle are occupied. Only Alexa has a number of cash register units that he calls bus stations. These units were authorized illegally as they do not have documents and do not meet the conditions for a bus station,” stated Eugen Galupa.
