Mimi Castle to be inaugurated Sept. 17

The First Castel of Moldova, situated in Bulboaca village of Anenii-Noi district, will be opened to the public on September 17, following extensive restoration works. The castle was built in 1893 by Constantin Mimi, the last governor of Bessarabia and an extraordinary winemaker of his time, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the owners of Mimi Castle, during several decades in a row Constantin Mimi’s complex had been hidden from the public. Only in 2010, within ordinary works, the workers removed the plated façade from the building. It was then decided to fundamentally restore the castle. Each brick was furbished according to special technologies and the underground galleries and cells were rediscovered and restored.

The opening of the castle will be accompanied by a live music concert that will involve the Russian band “Masina Vremeni” (“Machine of Time”), “Alternosfera”, Vali Boghean, the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, Brio Sonores and singers Aura and Vitalie Dani.

“Mimi Castle tends to become a visiting card for the Republic of Moldova. By this project, we aim to promote the country’s image in Moldova and abroad. The broadest restoration project in the recent history of the Republic of Moldova confirms our respect for history, tradition and good wine,” said Cristina Frolov, director of Mimi Castle.

Mimi Castle is privately owned. The owners haven’t made public the costs incurred for its renovation. The castle was included in the top 15 architectural masterpieces of the world of wine. The visitors can order trips through the historical complex and the modern wine production section. The complex includes several tasting halls, restaurants, summer terraces with fountains, a swimming pool, an open-air labyrinth, playgrounds, etc. The hotel mini-houses will welcome guests from autumn.
