Milsami and Sheriff battle for Moldovan Supercup
Milsami Orhei target a new trophy this year, after winning the Moldovan Cup. In the Supercup, they will meet champions Sheriff Tiraspol. The match will be played on July 8, in Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We have equal chances, even if we don’t have a good record against Sheriff”, said Milsami’s captain Adrian Sosnovschi during a press conference on Friday, July 6. “We must fight till the end. We want to win another trophy”, declared Portuguese midfielder Bruno Simao.
This summer, the Orhei-based side lost some of its key players like Brazilian Xavier Ademar, Romania’s Marius Roman, Ovidiu Mendizov and Adrian Grigoruta. However, coach Serghei Clescenco thinks his team can beat Sheriff even without them. “The hunger for victories and giving our all can help us win on Sunday”, said Clescenco.
According to the club board, Milsami will be supported by an organized group of 100 fans from Chisinau and Orhei.
Sheriff Tiraspol hope to add another trophy in their impressive cabinet. A victory on Sunday would bring them the fifth Supercup, after those won in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007. “We’re taking it very seriously. It’s just one game and we can’t make any mistakes. We don’t conceive of anything else but victory”, said new Sheriff’s new Slovenian captain Miral Samardzic.
Former skipper of the Tiraspol side Vaja Tarhnishvili, currently a technical director with the club, expects a tough match. “It’s the first official game of the new season and we want to get a good result. We must admit we have a strong adversary. It is also a test before the Champions League”, said Tahrnishvili.
The game with Milsami will be Serbian coach Milan Milanovic’s first game at the helm of the team. “We want to win and show quality football for our fans”, he declared.
In mid-July, Sheriff and Milsami will play in European competitions. Sheriff will meet Armenia’s Ulysses in the second qualification round of the Champions League. Milsami will play in the second qualification round of the Europa League, where they will take on the winners of the fixture between Aktobe Kazakhstan and Torpedo Kutaisi Georgia.
