Millions of lei lost daily due to tax evasion practices

Tax evasion practices generate daily losses of millions of lei for the national budget, which are often tolerated and even used by certain public institutions, stated Andrei Donica, the leader of the yet-to-be-registered Party of Moldovan Producers, at a news conference on Friday. In evidence of his statements, Andrei Donica presented video footage showing that the great majority of vendors at the Chisinau Central Market, which is a municipal enterprise, do not issue receipts and don't even have cash registers. He said that such situations, which amount to tax evasion, are very widespread. “The money which should go to the state budget to cover the needs of each citizen go instead to private pockets”, said Donica. However, Andrei Donica says that it is not only private businesses that engage in tax evasion. He claimed the a number of state enterprises, including Franzeluta and the National Opera House, do not issue receipts too. Donica also accused some politicians who concomitantly run private business of employing tax evasion schemes, naming in this context Lib-Dem Calin Vieru, the owner of a chain of restaurants and entertainment venues, and Social-Democrat Victor Selin, the owner of Patria movie theaters. Andrei Donica claims that the widespread tax evasion practices can be only explained by the fact that the governmental agencies are either inefficient in combating them or they covertly support such practices. He said that the multiple complaints on tax evasion that he submitted to the Tax Inspectorate, the Ministry of Finance and other relevant bodies have so far remained unanswered.
