The administration of JLC, which was covered by the inspections carried out by the National Food Safety Agency, said the milk scandal is a campaign aimed at denigrating the company, without specifying the organizer. Moreover, the producer intends to sue the publication that at the start of February posted the study showing that its milk products contained more vegetable fats than it was indicated on packing, IPN reports, with reference to protv.md.
According to the source, employees of the company admitted that they use vegetable fats in the manufacture of some of the dairy products, but everything is shown on packing. According to technologist Olga Galat, all their products sold in plastic containers are natural. The sour cream packed in polyethylene is sold under the name “sour cream product”, which means that it contains vegetable fats.
The same is true about the cheese product packed in polyethylene and the cheese without vegetable fats sold in plastic containers. The technologist assured that the cheese sold under the names “Grauncior”, “Faguras” and “Homemade cheese” contain no vegetable fats.
However, on order to make the natural cheese made from defatted milk thicker, technologists add sweet sour cream. Thus, the product obtains the fat written on packing.
According to the dairy’s director, the scandal concerning the milk is simulated and was generated intentionally in order to denigrate the company. “It is a PR campaign,” stated JLC director Elena Belan.
The administration of JLC said it annually purchases 80,000 tonnes of raw material and manufactures 37,000 tonnes of milk products.
Two weeks ago, the National Food Safety Agency started to inspect the storehouses of national dairy producers, banning the sale of dairy without a preliminary examination. The decision was taken after a study initiated by East Europe Foundation showed many of the milk products sold in Moldova contain more non-milk fats than it is allowed. The Agency established that the national dairy producers JLC and Incomlac supply products with a high content of vegetable fats to shops and demanded that the products should be withdrawn from shops.
