Milk production in Moldova is not satisfying even a half of consumption demand
Production of dairy goods in Moldova is not enough even for 50% of population’s consumption necessities and the deficit is covered by imports, the deputy director of the Management, Rural Development and Improvement Institute, Tudor Bajura declared.
According to him, at present, namely the cattle breeding sector should be supported by authorities, because only this filed of the agriculture did not increase the volumes of production until now.
At the same time Bajura said that there is no stabilization of production volumes, but only regresses in this sector. Annually, the livestock is decreasing by 10-11% and because of this the production of volumes of milk are diminishing. “Before the agricultural reform, this sector was producing 1.5 mln tonnes, of which 1.2 mln tonnes were sold. At present, the production volumes amount to 600 thousand tonnes and only 120 thousand tonnes are sold.
The Management, Rural Development and Improvement Institute has elaborated several drafts on creating cattle breeding enterprises it wants to propose to potential entrepreneurs. According to Bajura, the activity in this sector is profitable. The estimations of the institute show that a farm of 20 cows can bring a profit of at least MDL 100-120 thousand, and all investments can be recovered in maximum 6.5 years.
